We buried an ex-pat friend today. We were only informed yesterday
morning that Don had died, (unexpectly)
Seventeen "kanos", several with their wives were in attendance. We
outnumbered the Fillipinos.
There were two other Filipino burials going on at the same time. I
sincerely hope that an unspoken message was read. Don't mess with a
kano in CDO, we stand by and stick up for one another.
Lesson #476, How to Become a Legend in Your Own Time.
A monument was just outside the church, leading to the cemetary. The
monument read, "Dedicated to the unborn children." I found a local
flower vendor. For P20, I bought two cans of live flowers which I
laid at the foot of the monument.
My gesture was the topic of favorable conversation amongst several
groups who came to honor their deceased relatives. Unsolicited, I
heard my name mentioned three times by the Filiponos.
(I never identified myself, nor was asked for my name during my time
there.)
Bragadoccio? I think not. How will YOU be remembered as a menber of
YOUR community?
And if your community only exists with faceless contacts on the
Internet ............
