[LinP3] Philippine general information

For those of you who would like the "official information" in regards
to such things as B/B be reminded that there is no such thing here in
Philippines, it is up to the person who is processing the paper to
intrepret their own official guide lines. The official ruling is
determined by how much greese you provide. As far as the falling
peso, I was here in the 60s and 70s, but that was in my younger years,
I did not know then what the rate was to the dollar. All I ever did
was go get a hand full of them and spend them I usually could get
enough in my pockets for a nites worth of fun. The rule still applies
just go to ATM instead of money changer, did not have ATMs back then
get you a bunch and have some fun. The coins never bought much so we
use to pitch them in the river on the way back to the ship, If I ever
go broke I will try to retrieve some of them at main gate in
Olongapo. The falling peso, is somewhat like falling arches, you
never get them back again. happy trails until we meet again

[LinP3] Re: Boracay Hotel

Hello to everyone who is planning to visit Boracay.#

I have been here since August with my family and we enjoy it alot. It
does not have to bee so expensive to stay here unless you insist to
stay very close to The Beach. I just booked a room with fan and
bathroom 50 meters from the beach for a fellow Norwegian. They asked
25000 for one month! If you write me off list, I will be happy to
assist anyone who needs help. I have an IP-telephone which allows me
to call for free to the US.,Canada and Western Europe. Give me your
phone number and I will call you back. Or if you are on the island,
stop by for a coffee and you can call home at the same time.

Hello,

Your group is amazing and very informative. I've only been a member
for few months now. There's a lot of great talk and info to be read
and learned from. I live in SD CA and about to visit my own country in
Mar '08. The last time I was in PI was back in '97 when I was still
active duty. I'm bringing my teenager son along, so he can experience
PI for the 1st time. I need advice from the experienced ones. We're
planning to go to Boracay for few days. We're not picky on whatever
accomodation we get. It doesn't have to be oceanfront. 2 beds is
okay. Doesn't have to be luxurious. I was told that Holy Week is one
of the busiest time. Would it be okay to just hop aboard and find a
place to stay when we get there or reserve a hotel now? The reason is
that it's too expensive to book hotel from the states. I have plane
reservations already. Which one do you recommend and why. Thank you
for your help.

Re: [LinP3] Re: No more balikbayan visas?

Stan
That you got a bulikbayan stamp in Sept when we were denied in Aug. does prove that it is still working, But inconsistantly. When we returned in the end of aug I posted on this site about this [edit] others posted that they had had problems in getting the stamp as well. I don't want to mis quote them so the archieves should be checked. I got a lot of good information from this group that helped on that trip so in the spirit of sharing information I am sharing one family's experience. Greetings from Ca. Art B

We received a Balikbayan Visa on September 26, 2007 when we visited
there and an exit stamp on November 14, 2007. So I think the program
is still working.

[LinP3] Re: No more balikbayan visas?

I entered the RP on 5 December of 2007 with my wife. Although I was
only staying three weeks I wanted to see how it went. My wife went
first and at the conclusion of her interview with immigration she
asked for the Balikbayan stamp for me. The official just smiled and
said "no problem" or words to that effect. I stepped forward and my
passport was stamped 'Balikbayan' and we were off on our merry way.
We entered in Cebu.

[LinP3] Re: Rainy Season

Fred,

You didn't say what part of the RP you would be visiting. It makes a
bit of a difference where you'll be as the seasons aren't exactly the
same all over. But, the dry season is usually between Oct and March,
with slight variances from north to south. Some southern provinces
experience minor difference in temps, while others, like Baguio for
instance, have very cool temps during the winter months.
