[LinP3] Re: Cheap motel in Manila for the night

I stayed there for one night. It was the worst night I spent in the
PH. I got there and they did'nt know anything about my reservation,
they luckily or unluckily had one room left. The aircon barely
worked the toilet did not work properly, and the shower was a
nightmare. I don't think the place had been cleaned in a year. The
hotel was junked up! This is not a shot at them, but I slept better
on concrete floors in Pampanga with lizards and roaches! To be
fair, I did rent two rooms in Boracay from them. They were seaview
rooms which are the only ones I would rent. They were very
adequate. The staff was friendly, you had to go and get everything
yourself but that was fine, they don't charge an arm and a leg for
the place. The townhouse in Manila is in need of some serious
repair.

I don't know who your cell phone service is with, mine in the US is
with Alltel. To send text messages to overseas locations, Alltel
requires that each customer specifically request that feature, and a
higher per message rate applies to those foreign texts. Alltel
customers can receive text messages from overseas locations without
having to make a special feature request. Maybe your carrier has
similar rules?

[LinP3] Re: A lesson in welfare from a Filipino

I was determined not to comment about this subject, especially since
drmike has made most of the points I would have made, though he's
probably done so more articulately than I. I do want to add the caveat
however that, for those contemplating moving here, and who get angry
over the endless river of need, should probably reconsider moving. Why
come to a place that's going to precipitate your anger on a daily and
perhaps an hourly basis? Extreme poverty in the Philippines is not
going to disappear in our lifetime, and those who are in dire
financial straits aren't going to go away any time soon.

You're correct; an ongoing ticket will do. Whoever told you that you must

[LinP3] Re: A lesson in welfare from a Filipino

Mike,
I do not think I have ever met any hard working man that enjoys
paying taxes or enjoys having his tax dollars go to people that
willing do not work or contribute to socity in a meaningful way.

I guess I misssed something or my brain is on vacation...I do not
see the connection between enjoying paying taxes and wether or not
someone chooses to live here.

Personally...I liked the adage....if you do not work...you do not
need to eat or get to eat (from the days of the Pilgrims)

I send txts all of the time from my mobile phone service; Altel.
They seem to all go through. However, the return txts are quite
expensive.

Now, I use Chikka almost exclusively. They go through almost
immediately and responses cost the sender in the Philippines either 2
pesos or 2.5 pesos.

In fact, from Iraq I am using Chikka and all of the Filipinos that I
work with or know here use Chikka as well.

You can download Chikka for free and there are no monthly charges for
