[LinP3] Re: Permanent resident visa for the Philippines

The total cost will vary widely depending on where in the
philippines the person resides. If one lives in an outlying area,
one must figure in costs of travel, food, and lodging to go to the
city at least two or three times to complete this, spending a
minimum of one night there. It doesn't take many trips from an
outlying area to Cebu, spending at least a night or two, at least
two times, in order for those expenses to reach P40,000.

[LinP3] Re: Visa requirements

If you're planning to visit the US periodically, say once a year or
so, the balikbayn is your best alternative. You get one year free of
visa fees. At the end of one year you must either leave and re-
enter, OR start paying tourist visa fees, in which you can extend up
at least to 16 months further.

[LinP3] Re: Widower Moving to Phils from USA with 2 TEENAGE DAUGHTERS...good idea or no??

As a first step, I'd recommend a summer holiday in the Philippines.

After that, your girls could give you some reasoned feedback

[LinP3] Re: Electrical Inspection

It seems like you got quoted the "kano" price for your deep well!!
20K!??? LOL Our deep well when it was dug and done, it just came up to
8K that includes the material and the labor. The usual practice is
that whatever they charge you for the "tabay" or the concrete cylinder
is also the same price for the labor. Let's say one concrete cylinder
cost is 300pesos, the labor is also 300pesos. To compute if you have
15 concrete cylinders put in for the well that comes up to 4.5k plus
4.5k for labor. That only comes up to 9k. 20K!??? This was done by a
reputable and well recommended well digger. So far we never had a
problem with our wells.

With regards to Panay Electric Company, I think that also involves
paying for deposit for them to install the meter to your house. So
don't be surprised if it comes up to that price. Everything that gets
paid to Panay Electric Co., you get a receipt. If there's no receipt
then it means something else.

--- In LivingInThePhilippines3@yahoogroups.com, Paul Agey
<oneiloilojeepney@...> wrote:

initial hookup and install a new meter. We paid P20,000 to have the
diggers come in and dig a well a cap it. It's also important to dig
the well at the right time. The end of dry season (June) is the best
time to drill one because the water table is at it's lowest. If you go
ahead and drill a well now, expect to pay to have the diggers come
back and make it deeper in a few months when the water table is lower.
You'll also need to spend for the hand pump/electric pressure pump,
the pvc piping and the labor to install it. We just finished our home
in Ledesco and still are finding things that need to be done.

[LinP3] Re: Widower Moving to Phils from USA with 2 TEENAGE DAUGHTERS...good idea or no?

Guys,

I can't help but think that Steve, the original poster, has been yanking our
chains somewhat with a fantasy he has of "starting anew with his children in
a fresh country far away." Those of us with some perspective are each
giving him pieces of a joint response that what Steve told us so far is
simply not practical.

Perhaps Steve is experiencing some problems in his U.S. location, and with
his children, that begs serious help right here in the U.S. Running away to
the Philippines without a good plan and sufficient income to make it work
for him and his daughters may only serve to create discomfort for his
daughters and a decision a year or so from now to just come back to the U.S.
and start over.

Re: [LinP3] Re: Pancakes Carol, Bob

Is oat bran available in the Philipines? I've seen oat germ but never oat bran. But of course I wasn't looking for it at the time! ---Thanks! ===Bob

Carol,

You sound like a GREAT cook!

Bob,

Wheat germ is a bit oily and contains many nutrients, especially a nice mix of different forms of vitamin E.
Needs to be refrigerated.

Wheat Bran is dry and less nutritious, but high in fiber.

Personally, I use white flour sparingly in my baking, mixing on a 1 to 4 ratio with whole wheat flour (contains all the good stuff above and has a better flavor).
