Put your money in a CD for 10 years....at least you you will be able to see
it grow. You should be extremely sure about someones intent==that you are
not married to yet. Save your money and heartache, work on your relationship
first and after 5 years....then invest.

Daniel
=================
Dear Daniel,

Excellent advice, Daniel. Negotiating a cross cultural relationship can be
very stressful on both involved. And adapting to a new country, a new person
in your life, and maybe part of their family too, 24/7, is a major
challenge. Franchises, business of all sorts will always be there. But your
money and even your marriage may not. No need to put the stress of a new
business on a new marriage.

I hope he and others listens to you. But in the rush to make money, to get
established, to be successful materially, most over look the most basic and
demanding of challenges: adapting to a new culture and a new relationship.
So for most who need to follow your good advice, Daniel, I fear it will fall
on deaf ears. But at least you tried.

Respectfully,
Don

[LinP3] Re: Any American guys in there late 20s looking to move to PI or living there no

one can be young and enjoy the philippines if a laid-back lifestyle is
what one craves. if one has an income stream from elsewhere that
doesn't necessitate work, this lifestyle is possible. the catch
however is that one shouldn't also have young people's tastes. or at
least if one does, these better be scaled down and some *older* (and
simpler) ones, cultivated, and fast. otherwise, time comes when
1200usd a month won't last 30 days anymore.

[LinP3] Notice: Our New Forum at http://www.livinginthephilippines.com/forum and Happy New Year Seasons Greetings!

Dear friends, members and guests,

We put this Yahoo List and website, http://www.livinginthephilippines.com
up eight years ago. I have been around most of that time here in Cebu after
moving down from Luzon. Sixty thousand plus members have been served.

But I have been out for a while because of health problems. Reports of my
death only slightly exaggerated. But I am happy to say I am back with the
List Guides. It is they who have continued to serve you in my absence. They
are why this resource is here for you today. Without them there would be no
List here. Without your contributions, there would be no List either. As I
just proved by my absence, it works without me. It is you and the Guides who
make it all a success.

We have a new Forum for you, The Living in the Philippines Community, soon
to have its formal grand opening but up for you to visit now. We will be
closing this List for posting soon. And all posting will be there. But keep
it and your memberships here for reading the archives. We feel The Living in
the Philippines Community at http://www.livinginthephilippines.com/forum
will allow us to serve you better. Some of you found out about it and are
there now. The rest of you are invited too, of course.

There is not much posting there yet, but will be soon. We will eventually
stop all posting here, ask you post there, instead. Archives will build fast
as they did here. But [there these will] remain available for you. And the
new ones will be easier to search. So there is no reason to resign from
here. You will still receive Special Notices from here regarding features
there and here.

If you have posts here, your favorite posts, and you would like to move them
to the Living in the Philippines Community Forum, please feel free to do so.
You must join the Forum first of course. Again, it is at
http://www.livinginthephilippines.com/forum .

Rules, goals and our mission is to have people consider the Philippines as a
place to visit, live, retire or do business. These remain the same as almost
everything does. But we lose the restrictions of the Yahoo Groups format, go
to the flexibility of the Forum, or "board," Simple Machine. And it is
simple to use as a member or guest.

The Forum is "intuitive," as they all try to be. But if you want
instructions, very clear instructions are reached by a click on the "HELP"
Button at the top of the Forum:
http://livinginthephilippines.com/forum/index.php?action=help

Our old rules we take with us are at:
http://livinginthephilippines.com/forum/index.php?board=69.0

If you need to contact a Forum Guide for help write or to discuss this post
of mine, please do so at:
http://livinginthephilippines.com/forum/index.php?board=70.0

We all look forward to many more years of trying to get you the information
you need to visit, travel, retire, live in the Philippines happily and
successfully.

Thank you for being with us, for accepting this announcement and for you
contributions. And Happy New Year and Seasons Greetings to you all!

Respectfully,
Don

[LinP3] Re: Bargain airfare USA to Philippines

Dan,

I actually tried twice to purchase one of these low-cost LAX-MNL
China Airlines flights from www.atiflights.com. Both times, I
received this message,

"We apologize for the inconvenience but due to a system availability
error the itinerary you selected cannot be booked. One of our agents
will contact you with the closest possible alternative in terms of
price and schedule.

Your credit card has NOT been charged for this transaction.

You may access our website http://WWW.ATIflights.com and search for
the next available option or call 1-866-336-5269 Monday through
Friday 09am -5:30 pm EST, Saturday: 10am through 2pm EST, Sunday 12n
trough 4 pm EST. We thank you for using ATIflights.com."

I subsequently received an e-mail from them offering me a flight on
same days ss orginally requested:

"Dear Customer

We apologize for not being able to confirm your request due to a
system error.
Please find below the least expensive fare available for $ 978.07 with
insurance included."

Hope you have better luck with atiflights than i did.

[LinP3] Philippine Customs Charges

'FYI: I posted the following on 9 Dec. 06 (I also posted this
earlier); in response to a 'Poster's' question about how much
'customs' charges would be made on a particular item(s).'

You're welcome to search for the information:
http://www.customs.gov.ph/boc_index.jsp
The above URL is the site for the Philippine Bureau Of Customs.

I previously searched for a listing such as they have for the US;
where they list items (such as china, pearl jewelry, etc.) and give
the percentage of customs that will be charged.

I was never able to find that type information; on several Philippine
sites I searched. I did find that Philippines customs seem to be
ruled by an ASEAN Agreement that seems to boil down to the fact that
what you pay/paid for an item has nothing to do with what 'Customs'
charges will be assessed. It even stated that they could use the local
price as being the 'cost' that they will use to compute the customs
charges.

If I didn't mess up my computations; it appears that you are paying
20% customs fee. - Be happy it isn't a car you shipped to here; since
I understand (from member's posts) that they usually pay 100%. :-)

BTW: I'll remake the same request I made in my previous response. IF
anyone can find such a listing I would certainly appreciate knowing
it's URL/Site.

'BTW: Until now (3 Jan. 08); no one has ever been able to show me such
a list; as they have in the U.S.' :-)

Not exactly true about Alltel. I signed up for a normal 1,000
minutes per month and unlimited txts. I didnt ask anything about
international texts. The international texts go through as part of
the unlimited texts feature and no additional charge is imposed.

[LinP3] Re: francise

Put your money in a CD for 10 years....at least you you will be able
to see it grow. You should be extremely sure about someones
intent==that you are not married to yet. Save your money and
heartache, work on your relationship first and after 5 years....then
invest.
