Coming from a "newbie" who's just made the transition from the US to
the Philippines, I'm glad to hear that you guys feel the same as I do
about living here. Yes, I've been "ragged" about some of the
experiences I've had since arriving, but after what just happened
back in Tulsa OK where I moved from, (check out the blizzard they had
last month) it's gonna take a lot worse things to happen here, before
the thought of leaving will cross my mind.
Having a health condition that is compounded by cold weather, and
having lived in FL and other "warm climes" in the States, I realized
a couple of years ago that I would have to relocate somewhere other
than the USA to enjoy my declining years in some measure of comfort.
Most especially since I have to deal with a fixed income brought
about by my condition.
And to make matters even better, I was blessed to find and marry a
lovely Filipina, a professional who already owned her home, car, and
has no desire to move to the States, just to visit the places she
felt interesting. When asked by her fellow teachers as to why she
wants to remain in the PI, her rationale is that our money goes a lot
further here in the PI, than in the States, so why move there? Guess
I'm blessed in that respect also.
When I came here on R&R back in the 60's, the $/peso rate was not all
that great then, but the country, atmosphere, and most of all the
people, was enough for me to desire coming back, it took me almost 40
years to get back, but now that I'm here, I'm staying . I LOVE my
country, but I just can't afford to live there, not with the
conditions I face from a health standpoint.
