[LinP3] Re: Sending jewelry to the Philippines

One thing we should consider when thinking of sending jewelry,
expensive or not, to our GF's in the RP is the fact that she will be
unlikely to wear anything out in public for fear of having it snatched
by someone on the street. We regularly advise our guests to not wear
anything of value when in the public that would make them a target for
a thief. When I'm there, I wear and old wristwatch and leave me gold
necklace at home. I've known people to lose watches, necklaces,
cellphones and other things of value to guys on jeepneys who grab what
they can and then quickly exit the jeepney and disappear into the
masses. I would wait until I go there myself and then carry it on my
person to give to her privately. YMMV
