Do they really impose a 100% tax on imported items such as new
cars? Seems that the effect of that policy is to severely limit
consumer choices for residents. I can see it (sort of) if the
government is imposing such a large tax in order to protect Filipino
industry but I don't believe there is a local automobile industry to
protect in the Philippines, is there? This is one government policy
that I would like to see changed since I believe that it has a
negative impact on the country and it's citizens. If Philippine
industries can't compete, then have them raise their quality until
they can compete. Seems to me that such high, protective tariffs
(import taxes) hinder Philippine business more than help. John.
