When I was hospitalized at the Asian Hospital, all the required
medical laboratory tests were directly billed to the Blue Cross Blue
Shield (by fax), and paid for by my insurance. In other words, all the
lab cost, medicines, doctors' fees, and hospitalization, were included
in the total bill, amounting to about P60,000. However, my stay in
the hospital was extended for one day because the accounting
department was still waiting for approval of the expenses. I didn't
encounter any problem except that.

Here's the number to call for preauthorization (804) 673-1678. I'm
not sure but I believe you can call them collect. I think they answer
this number 24/7 so no problem with time difference. The BC/BS rep
also told me that, as soon as I know the date I'll be admitted, I
could call them and a rep will call Asian Hospital and give them
approval to admit and billing instructions. Unfortunately, only the
hospitalization can be billed directly to BC/BS; any required medical
tests to be done as an outpatient (lab work) must be paid for upfront
then a claim sent to BC/BS. Hope this helps.
