But pellet guns are allowed and there are Safari Clubs around which will
outfit you and take you into the province to plink at birds. One of the
clubs comes out to my place occasionally from Cebu City. They'll bring
their customers dressed in army fatigues in military style jeeps. The
customers are wealthy businessmen out for a lark. They'll buy beer and junk
foods from my sari-sari and crawl through the corn fields on their bellies
as though the birds were going to shoot back. The Safari Company has
promised to pay for any chickens that are shot by mistake. My neighbors try
to shoo their birds into the fields hoping that one of them will pay off,
but so far there've been no chickens hit and very few birds. Pellet guns
and testosterone, what a combination!
