I'd say your filipina nurse was being overly cautious unless there is something about your medical condition (e.g., weakened immune system) that you shared with her that you have not told us. Just relax, drink bottled water and come here and have some fun.
Happy Trip!
Mike.

Subject: [LinP3] Re: medical questions
On Dec 19 I visited my local public health office, (in Canada), to
discuss vaccinations for my upcoming (Jan 9) trip to Cebu. I was
fortunate enough to have an expat Filipina nurse give me my shots and
all the info I could possibly need regarding my health while in the
Philippines. (I cannot believe everything she said because she told
me there are no crocodiles in the Philippines and I later saw a
picture of one on the internet :-)
So I received Hep A and B vaccinations. A TD/Adacel for tetanus and
diphtheria. Dukoral, Oral Vaccine To Stop Travelers' Diarrhea. Oral
Typhoid vaccine. Also recommended were vaccines for Rabies and
Japanese Encephalitis but I did not have enough time for these to be
effective. I also received a recommendation to bring a Malaria
regimen but only if I planned to travel away from Cebu.
I was warned to bring effective mosquito repellent (minimum 30% Deet)
because of the Dengue fever.
So . . for those of you living in the Philippines . . what do you
think of all this?
