Re: [LinP3] Re: Skeptical and Critical thinking in the Philippines

I once saw a boy, about 10, who had been bitten by a dog,
treated by a quack doctor. The doctor slit the boys back with
a razor blad, causing a slight break in the skin in three place.
The boy then had a three small horns that we hollow and tipped
with beeswax applied to the slits. The horns were sucked, to
put suction to the slits in the skin and the wax held the suction
to the hollow horns. The suction was applied to the horns for
about 30 minutes. The suction was then released by removing the
wax. The boy had reddened skin and some fluid in the cavities of
the hollow horns. The father paid the quack doctor 50 pesos and
headed out with the box on the same motorcycle he had come rolling
in on. the boy has not developed rabies to this day. I found it to be
an interesting treatment.

Most quack doctors are for the extremely desperate are
those who cannot afford regular medical care. Having
said this, my wife knows of a few quack doctors who
are knowledgeable about herbs and local plants that are
made into useful medicine...only available from a
quack doctor.
