On the last 4 major purchases (5k php or above) that we made I got a
better deal than my wife or my brother-in-laws. It has to do with
bargaining and the technique you deploy when bargaining and them being
able to tell you are serious and I do not mean by yelling at them
(that will not get you anywhere - you have to treat them as equals).
It also helps if their sales are slow...
I have walked out on numerous prices and will continue to walk until
the store understands that I will walk if the price is not reasonable.
For example: I was looking for an electric fan a few months ago.
Went to a very nice appliance store - saw the perfect fan. They would
not budge off the stickered price (they had already offered my wife
10% and my brother-in-law 15% the day before). I walked to the next
store - they saw me go in. The next store did not have what I wanted
so I went home.
I was planning on going to the other side of town the next day and
look some more, but first I had to go to the feed store next to the
appliance store I first went to. The same salesman saw me and asked
if I bought my fan - I told him and pointed that they did not have
what I wanted, but I was going over to ??? after I finished at the
feed store. He asked why I did not buy his fan - I told him just like
the day before it was not a good price so I would keep looking until I
found someone that wanted my money and was willing to treat me fairly.
He then offered 15% off the fan I liked - I said 20% and he had a
deal - it was a deal.
I have similar stories about a 5hp boat motor, brush cutter, and some
netting equipment... You just have to be kind, straight forward and
honest...
