Re: [LinP3] peso

Bob,

Thanks for the info. BTW: I left Japan in April 05! When I got here it
was $1=P56. I'm a widower and probably won't get married; plus have a
good amount of money each month (coming in); which means I've been
able to live with the drop so far.

I sponsor a Filipino Family; and if the Peso drops another P10; to
keep my present living style, I would have to cut back on my
assistance; which I definitely don't want to do. - The strengthening
Peso has to stop at some point. :-(

The weakening dollar had better stop soon; or there may be some major
surprises in the on-going American Elections.

I noticed today that GMA is back to playing with the Dollar to Peso
rate. For the last 7 or 8 days; when I checked the $ to P rate it was
lower in the morning and than even lower in the evening. Then the next
morning it was still lower.

This morning the rate was $1-P40.53 and this evening it was $40.6750.
This means that the government is getting pressure to not continuously
drop the exchange rate. - I suppose they will go back to the old
see-saw (up and down) method (they had for several months) to see if
they can continue a slow/steady 'strengthening' before the OFW's
families start marching on the Capitol. :-)

She is definitely walking a tight-rope. BTW: I seriously doubt if she
could get away with giving OFWs a better rate than others get. - But!
Never say never! :-)

Is there no bottom? I've heard that OFW's are unhappy because their
income is dropping with the dollar. There was a story going around
that Auntie Gloria would establish a special exchange rate for the
OFW's of 50pesos per dollar but so far that hasn't happened to my
knowledge.

the dollar will probably fall to 38/1 very soon and to 30/1 by the end
of 2008.

pricing. We have a place near the SM Mall of Asia called S&R and they
have lots of imported goods from the USA including washers, dryers,
foods, etc. It doesn't seem any more expensive to me than local
supermarkets/hypermarkets. They have quite a lot of imported stuff.
It's inconvenient for us because no car so using a taxi isn't easy.
