RE: [LinP3] Never got an answer regarding phone plans in Philippines

Dear Mark,

Good you asked again Mark. I hope everyone who does not get an answer to a
good question asks again here.

For many years it was hard to get a telephone here. Now it is easy, no
longer a complete monopoly thought almost. Before you had to "bribe," to get
a phone. What that meant was only the wealthy could get phones. If you had
poor friend, relative or customers, you could not phone them anyway. And the
phones did not work good, bad service, etc.

Now the phone companies are doing very well, Internet and cell phone helping
them a lot, service is almost decent. It is not world class but what an
improvement from just a few years ago. Philippine Long Distance Telephone
(PLDT} company tried to slip in metering, almost succeed but did not. They
got cell phones in the hands of all, even the poor. Text, maybe just as
profitable. There is more texting per capita here than any country in the
world I understand. You can buy a cell phone reconditioned for P700 with
charge and SIM card. I buy many because I lose them like a crazy old man, as
it should be. I have a helper who backs up my SIM every week. The SIM card
copiers are not available here. I hope I can find one some day, hope the
start selling them here almost as much as my helper. Maybe an angle will
drop on me. They are only about $2 in the US I understand. I would be happy
to pay US $10.

There are many cell phone plans I just buy P300 card for 300 minute or 300
text like most people. I have a could of land lines, unlimited service, may
P600 a month if no long distance call. Maybe some with metered phones, they
do have them as an option, can tell you more. I stay away from metering of
phones a much as I can but you can't here with cell phones very easily. But
I don't see telephone here as a big challenge. People with call centers and
such have problems with stable and fast enough Internet connections, need
the best in the world and don't have them. But it has improved a lot over
the years. And now you can get an Internet connection send free text and
make free long distance calls at least free computer to computer. Long
distance call computer to land line are cheap. Intra Philippines VOIP is
more expensive than the land line from my experience. I will put this an
more at http://www.livinginthephilippines.com . I don't believe we have
anything on this List's website about telephones, only Internet and call
centers.

Very best always,
Don

Is it safe to assume that there are no American type plans there?
Is it all by the minute with no date options
