Re: [LinP3] Re: Widower Moving to Phils from USA with 2 TEENAGE DAUGHTERS...good idea or no?

Steve,

Guess I'm the only one who believes that you could find a good life here
with your children. The skeptics are not entirely wrong. You would surely
need to keep your eyes open as you do at home and select your style of
living and paths for your children carefully. Depending upon where you
choose to live, the expenses for your children will be higher. Though $12K
is wildly pessimistic!

I would avoid any school that labels itself "International"; very expensive
and mediocre. Wealthy Filipino families would rather send their children
abroad (many do) than send them to an "International" school. The best
schools such as U of the Philippines (NCR), St. Paul Collage, Silliman U
(Region VII), Sto. Tomas (NCR), De la Salle (Das Marinas) are highly
accredited and none charge more than P130K per year tuitions, some much
less. Peripheral costs should be half of that in addition.

Plan your move carefully, be adequately capitalized and prepare your
children for the move and you'll minimize the landmines. On the other hand,
you need to be aware of the hazards as well. Among them are the
availability of inexpensive drugs (shabu) which have invaded every strata of
society. I say plan your strategy carefully (make an extended visit with
your children), be certain that you are adequately funded and move! You can
find a good life here.

Ron
