At the present time most of the areas where deers used to roam are gone due to uncontrolled hunting and destruction of their habitats caused by illegal logging or just total lack of wildlife preservation programs by the government
When the majority of people in the rural areas are poor and hungry, combined with nonexistent forest preservation and controil, "free" widlife suffers and gets affected considerably.
When a Filipino tells you there are plenty of birds to hunt, most likely that's because he's still seen a half dozen or so of them in the wild. Ducks and decent size wild birds flying by the thousands just like in the US is just a figment of the imagination on these days and age when the Philippines is concerned.

mark,
mostly it's Philippine deer that we caught. not all students hunt.
only 2 or 3 students tag along with the Company ranger/security to hunt.
we just get one or two which is enough for 30 people. pinoys don't eat
much. btw, this happened between year ('78-81).
